UPDATE: Lightning causes three wildfires east of Osoyoos

UPDATE: Tuesday, July 23 - 9:55 a.m.

One of the three lightning-caused fires sparked on Monday near Osoyoos is now under control.

The fire at the end of Black Tail Road on Anarchist Mountain is considered under control, while two other blazes one on the north side of Anarchist Mountain and the other near Long Joe Creek are considered held.

Air tankers were called in to assist nine ground crews and local fire departments on Monday, but will not be returning on Tuesday.

Three BC Wildfire crew will be on site today.

BC Wildfire is responding to multiple fires east of Osoyoos.

It is believed the fires were started by a lightning storm that moved through the area.

BC Wildfire Service said at 6 p.m. that personnel and airtankers are responding to fires in conjunction with the local fire department. The fires are located on the north side of Anarchist Mountain, Bighorn Point and at Long Joe Creek.
