The Township of Spallumcheen says enforcement is required on a number of issues at the Log Barn on Highway 97A. Council moved Monday to force compliance.

A popular business in Spallumcheen has been put on notice.

Township officials say some of the concerns with the Log Barn on Highway 97A are the roofed-over walkway was built without a building permit, the main deck area was constructed without a building permit and areas in the store must be equipped with emergency lighting and exit signs.

Coun. Todd York said the main issue is safety.

“There may have been things built outside of building code, without permits,” he said.

“It puts not only the owners in jeopardy, but it puts then the community in jeopardy and the municipality in jeopardy as far as liabilities go.”

Coun. Christine Fraser said structures were built despite a stop work order and “those alterations have health and safety concerns.”

“These could impact our residents and residents travelling through.”

The Log Barn had until May 20 to fix the issues, and council moved Monday to force compliance.

The owner of the Log Barn could not be reached for comment.
