Funds are being raised for fireworks in Lumby.

Lumby residents are being warned about a roadblock.

The Lumby Fire Department will be stopping residents during Hockeyville celebrations Saturday to raise funds for Halloween fireworks.

They will be near the village office from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“This fundraiser is a major event bringing in about half of the proceeds needed to have a successful fireworks show on Halloween night,” said fire chief Tony Clayton.

Halloween fireworks take place at 8 p.m. from J.W. Inglis Elementary Oct. 31.

Mayor’s efforts recognized

Annual efforts pitched by a high-profile Lumby citizen to support the Whitevalley Community Resource Centre are being applauded.

Mayor Kevin Acton has earned a lifetime membership from the centre for his dedication, which includes camping on the side of the road every year to raise funds.

“The award is bestowed upon individuals who have demonstrated, over time, continuous and extraordinary support to our organization, and to the individuals we serve,” said Gay Jewitt, executive director, in a letter to Lumby.

“We are very fortunate for the support of people like you, who choose to make the centre a part of their lives.”
