Seasonal accommodations in Lumby have got a head-start this year.

Village council agreed to let the Lumby Lions Campground open April 1 although it generally launches the season May 1.

The reason for the early start is a large dart tournament and a Charles Bloom Secondary School reunion.

“We’re trying to accommodate these events because it brings economic benefits to the community,” said Coun. Julie Pilon.

The campground will still close Sept. 30, but the length of the season could evolve in following years.

“We want them to come back and renegotiate some dates,” said Pilon.

Earlier this year, village council had to enforce the no winter camping policy when some people were residing on site. They were ultimately evicted.

“There was no water or hydro and it became a liability,” said Pilon.

Pilon insists that current council actions at the campground have nothing to do with the evictions.

“That was a totally different issue and that was resolved by the Lions and the village,” she said.

Under new policies, no camper will be allowed to stay longer than 14 days.
