It’s time for Lumby to shine.

The 61st annual Lumby Days get underway Friday and runs until Sunday at Oval Park.

“Everything is looking awesome,” said Merna Alexander, Lumby Days chairperson.

The theme  is Celebrate Our History and that will likely influence the floats and other entries in the parade.

“We will probably see loggers, farmers, miners and, of course, hockey players,” said Alexander.

The parade starts at 11 a.m. Saturday and makes its way throughout the downtown core. Large crowds are expected to line the sidewalks.

“The entries are up again,” said Alexander.

“It’s not a commercial parade. A lot of people put a lot of work into it and have fun.”

A number of activities are planned during the three days, including the midway, Thrash Wrestling, the vintage car show and the model railroad display.

New this year is gold panning with the Vernon Placer Miner Club, while the little ones can get up close and personal with some fuzzy friends at the petting zoo.

“There will be a mama and baby llama and rabbits and goats,” said Alexander.

The Monashee Arts Council will hold its show and sale in the White Valley Community Centre while the antique and firearm show will be in the Pat Duke Memorial Arena.

A popular stop is the Lumby Museum’s pie booth, while a variety of food will be available in the concession area.

And if you want to see Lumby from a new perspective, you can take flight with the helicopter rides Saturday and Sunday.

“We kept them so busy last year they had to bring in two helicopters this year,” said Alexander.

You can also keep your eye to the sky to catch the action of the 11th annual Lumby Air Races, which coincide with Lumby Days.

Live entertainment will also take to the stage throughout the weekend.

Alexander is encouraging residents of the North Okanagan to make their way to Lumby for the celebrations.

“Bring your picnic lunch and enjoy the entertainment,” she said.
