There will be soon be expanded health care for Lumby area residents.

B.C. Emergency Health Services is moving ahead with plans for a community paramedicine program in Lumby.

“It’s a huge step in the right direction for health care,” said Mayor Kevin Acton.

Through the program, a paramedic will visit homes for regularly scheduled visits. They will help patients stay connected with their family doctor or nurse practitioner.

Paramedics will also check in with patients about their medications and look for fall hazards in the home, and suggest ways of correcting them.

“They will be able help seniors stay in their home to make sure they are safe,” said Acton.

“There is no cost to the client. They get help and education.”

The paramedic will also refer patients to the right health care resource when they need additional assistance.

It’s expected that the community paramedicine program will begin soon.
