It’s not known if Lumby and Cherryville taxes will climb for parks and recreation.

Members of the White Valley Parks, Recreation and Culture Advisory Committee held preliminary 2018 budget discussions Thursday.

“We are still dealing with the affect effects of flooding in the community,” said Randal Ostafichuk, director.

“We have to be cautious when looking at the preliminary budget for parks, recreation and culture so we don’t over extend ourselves.”

One of the items that will be considered during budget talks is improvements to Pat Duke Memorial Arena.

“We want to move forward with what we can such as the girls change rooms,” said Ostafichuk, adding that other potential upgrades will depend on grants.

Also on Thursday, the committee agreed to amend the 2017 budget to include $10,000 to replace two unit heaters at the Lumby Curling Club. The funds will come from gas tax funds.
