Residents and authorities are still keeping an eye on Lumby’s Duteau Creek.

Fed by snowmelt and rain, the creek began spilling its bank Friday morning and conditions have continued throughout the afternoon and into the evening.

“We’re not out of the woods by any means but the water isn’t as high as it could be,” said Mayor Kevin Acton.

By Friday night, one mobile home on the opposite side of the creek from the village was surrounded by water.

“The rest of the trailer park (on the north side of the creek) is surrounded by sandbags,” said Acton.

In fact, village crews and firefighters have put together about 6,000 sandbags to deal with high water.

Conditions will be monitored throughout Friday night and into Saturday morning.
