Vernonites may eventually be able to slap parking meter fees on plastic.
Two companies will conduct a trial of credit card capable parking meter systems in early July.
“This will allow further data on credit card use to be gathered and allow a final decision to be made on the purchase of about 200 credit card capable parking meters,” said Patti Bridal, corporate services manager.
“This will allow increased customer access to metered parking in the areas of implementation, meet one of the goals of the city centre parking strategy and assist in ensuring the city will be served by a system capable of expansion as the existing infrastructure ages.”
The two companies will conduct a 90-day trial and setup, training and maintenance education will occur at their cost, not the city’s.
