The sun was shining, painting a picturesque image of well-dressed guests gathering to enjoy wine, art and the view of the Turtle Mountain Winery.

The garden party and art auction was a hit for the 30th anniversary of the Midsummer’s Eve of the Arts Wednesday.

The Vernon Public Art Gallery raised over $51,000, making it the best year yet, with guests filling the winery to its 300-person capacity, said executive director of the gallery, Dauna Kennedy Grant.

“It was our biggest year ever last year and we topped it.”

Last year the event raised $48,000.

Don Raffan has been auctioneering at the event for the past 30 years.

“I keep coming back because they keep asking me,” he said.

It’s a different scene than the usual cowboy crowd for the Raffans, owners of Valley Auction.

Don does it for the people.

“It’s a lower-key crowd,” he said. “It’s a fun crowd.”

His son, Brody, auctioned art pieces for the first time.

“I’m happy to get more experience,” he said.

The money raised goes towards programming and exhibitions for the gallery.

The top seller of the night was Rick Bond’s Moraine which sold for $1,900.

Deb White has been coming to the event for the past few years with her girlfriends.

It’s great getting girlfriend time and to enjoy the view, she said.

“It’s a great excuse for a girl’s night out,” said Val Trevis.

Bannister Honda provided shuttles throughout the night.
