There’s been a tragic end to the case of a missing Vernon senior.

The body of an 80-year-old man reported missing by a concerned neighbour Tuesday morning was found in Vernon Creek near Marshall Field.

“A concerned resident called the Vernon detachment to report they had not seen a neighbour for a few days,” said Vernon RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.

“Our officers went to the man’s residence in the 6100 block of Okanagan Landing Road to check on the man. They found the home empty with no sign of him.”

Police conducted numerous inquiries attempting to locate him but all leads turned up negative.

“Indications were the 80-year-old man was a very active hiker in the area,” said Molendyk.

Vernon Search and Rescue was called in to assist in the search for the man, who was found shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The case has been turned over to the coroner’s office.

Foul play is not suspected.

The Vernon RCMP want to thank the Vernon Search and Rescue Team for their great work in finding this missing person so quickly.
