District council has agreed to let the Crepe Bistro set up a mobile food operation on the right-of-way next to the Kalamalka General Store on Kalamalka Road Sunday and June 25.

“There’s a demand in the community,” said Kevin O’Brien, owner of the store.

“It’s about community building. We want to offer more to the community.”

Beyond the two dates in June, there is the possibility that the mobile food trailer could be on site every Sunday during the summer.

“It creates a nice community offering,” said Sabine Petit, owner of the Crepe Bistro.

In the end, council agreed to all Sundays until Labour Day if the owners of the Kal General Store agree to the mobile business being there.

District staff recommended support for the mobile food vendor Sunday and June 25.

“Since the acquisition of the rail trail, there has been an increase in the number of tourists in the area and staff anticipate considerable interest in a Kal Beach mobile vending site,” said Mike Reiley, development services director, in a report.

“The proposal to allow a vendor at the Kal General Store is a good way to test the waters to see what impact these types of business will have on traffic flows, pedestrian activity and general activity in the area.”
