UPDATE Jan. 27:

A delayed opening and continued closures persist at SilverStar Mountain Resort.

A power outage and ongoing avalanche control work have caused a delayed opening of Putnam Creek Friday.

The Powder Gulch chair is now open, with access via Bergerstrasse. Home Run Tee will not be running until further notice.

Night skiing on the gondola is cancelled tonight due to the outage and ongoing danger tree issue.

Meanwhile fallen trees and other hazards will see Alpine Meadows chair and terrain closed for the third day in a row.

“With the incoming weather changes please be aware that some of our operations may be affected,” the resort said Friday. “With new snow, incoming wind events, we will continue to do danger tree mitigation throughout the mountain. Because of this Alpine Meadows and select narrow runs may be closed affecting access to E lot and some terrain. Please respect all mountain signage as we work through these challenging weather events.”

Over at Sovereign Lake Nordic Club, heavy snow and mild temperatures are keeping a couple trails closed. Lars Taylor and Aberdeen remain closed until Saturday.

UPDATE Jan. 26:

The backside has been reopened but another area of SilverStar remains closed Thursday.

SilverStar Mountain Resort says continued high winds causing trees to snap in the Alpine Meadows terrain. Therefore the area and chair continue to be closed today.

But the backside has reopened following the assessment of dangerous trees.

ORIGINAL Jan. 25:

High winds and falling trees have closed some trails and lifts at SilverStar.

Alpine Meadows chair and terrain are closed Wednesday, Jan. 25, along with the backside of the mountain and all upper nordic trails.

Danger tree mitigation is underway in the areas affected.

“At this time we anticipate reopening the backside and upper nordic trails on Thursday, and we will provide further updates on our website and social feeds,” the resort said.

The mountain received a large dump of wet, heavy snow mid January which caused hundreds of trees to snap. The load has left others weakened, hence the need for danger tree mitigation.
