The idea of matching donations towards the Okanagan Rail Trail is catching on.
Sandi and David Harder, owners of Klub Kalamalka, are encouraging families at their campground to pledge a metre or more towards construction of the recreational corridor and they will match campers’ donations up to a total of $5,000.
“The Okanagan Rail Trail will be such a gift to local residents and tourism operations. We all need to get behind this,” said Sandi Harder, whose family has owned the Oyama campground for more than 50 years.
This is the second initiative to try and leverage funds for the trail between Coldstream and Kelowna.
If a $50,000 challenge can be met by Sunday, then an anonymous donor will put together another $50,000 for matching funds, bringing his total matching dollars to $100,000.
The Okanagan Rail Trail Initiative hopes to raise $7.86 million for the project.
”Businesses in Kelowna, Lake Country and North Okanagan are starting to come forward with creative ideas, and are welcome partners for the rail trail campaign, said Brad Clements, with the ORTI.
