Highway 97 now fully reopened between Cache Creek and Clinton

Mudslides on August 3 closed the highway to all traffic.

UPDATE 9:45 a.m.: Highway 97 is now fully open between Cache Creek and Clinton.

UPDATE 8 a.m. August 4: Highway 97 is still closed from the junction with Highway 99 to Clinton. The highway has reopened from Cache Creek to the Highway 99 junction.

DriveBC is estimating that the highway will fully reopen by 9 a.m.

UPDATE 9:15 p.m.: A Geo Tech assessment is now in progress on Highway 97 north of Cache Creek. The highway is still closed in both directions, and the next update will not be until 8 a.m. on August 4.

A detour is available via Highways 1, 5, and 24.

UPDATE 8:30 p.m.: Highway 1 has now reopened south of Cache Creek after being closed by a mudslide earlier this afternoon.

Highway 97 between Cache Creek and Clinton is still closed following mudslides in the area. There is no estimated time of reopening.

Highway 97 north of Cache Creek has closed due to a mudslide for the third time in four days, and Highway 1 south of Cache Creek has also closed due to a mudslide.

The latest slide on Highway 97 has occurred 2km south of the junction with Highway 99. The highway is closed from Cache Creek to the Highway 99 junction, and a Geo Tech assessment will be conducted.

An assessment of both situations is in progress. A motorist stranded by the Highway 97 slide reports that at least two pieces of equipment are now at work at the site.

Highway 97 was closed for several hours on July 31 and again on August 2 due to mudslides. The highway had reopened to single-lane alternating traffic guided by a pilot car on the evening of August 2, with drivers experiencing delays of up to an hour on August 3.

Highways 1, 5, and 24 remain open as a detour route.
