The man arrested in Vernon in connection with the murder of a woman in Vancouver is facing more legal issues.

Court records indicate William Victor Schneider, born in 1967, was charged with a sexual assault in Vernon on Sept. 28, the same day he was arrested in Vernon in connection with the discovery of the body of Natsumi Kogawa, 30, in Vancouver.

“We were made aware of a potential offence and we investigated,” said Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy on the sexual assault charge.

Noseworthy could not say much, as the matter is before the courts, but did say police were contacted about an assault on a female in the Vernon area.

Kogawa had been reported missing on Sept. 12. Her body was found 16 days later on the property of a Davie Street mansion in downtown Vancouver near Nicola Street. She had last been seen in Burnaby on Sept. 8.

Court records in Vancouver show Schneider is charged with murder and interference with a dead body. The offence date is listed as Sept. 8.

Schneider, who is believed to be from the Vernon area, has been remanded in custody. He is slated to appear in Vernon Provincial Court March 2 on the sexual assault charge, and in Vancouver Law Courts March 27 on the other two counts.
