A new fire chief has been hired for the North Westside Fire Department.

New fire chief for North Westside area

Appointment comes after regional district conflict with former chief

The Regional District of Central Okanagan has hired a new full-time fire chief for the North Westside Road area.

Effective Sunday,, Doug Gardiner takes on the full-time management position for Killiney Beach, Westshore Estates, Fintry Delta, Valley of the Sun and La Casa.

Gardiner has been acting as the department’s interim chief since early August.

Long time chief Wayne Carson resigned Sept. 16, claiming that he had no choice given allegations and job changes being made by RDCO.

He was suspended by the regional district for three days in June but details around that circumstance have never been made public. He then returned to duties after the suspension but a leave of absence began July 8. RDCO has stated Carson requested the leave but Carson has denied that.
