New name for trust

The Okanagan Region Wildlife Heritage Fund Society is now known as the Southern Interior Land Trust.

An organization dedicated to conserving natural habitat in the Okanagan has a new name.

The Okanagan Region Wildlife Heritage Fund Society is now known as the Southern Interior Land Trust.

“The board felt a simpler name would be easier for people to remember and relate to, and the expanded mandate is more inclusive,” said president Ross Everatt.

Since it was formed in 1988, the volunteer group has been involved in a variety of projects, including the preservation of Swan Lake wetlands.

SILT welcomes offers of land donations, bequests or funds to purchase land; suggestions of properties that should be protected, either by a covenant or purchase; as well as interest from volunteers wanting to conserve land for wildlife.
