Vernon’s newest park is coming along nicely.
Work continues on the construction of the new Civic Memorial Park at the former Vernon Civic Arena site on 37th Avenue, with a target to have the majority of construction completed by the end of June 2022.
Council was given an update by adminstration at its regular meeting Monday, May 9, that the last house on the site was removed on April 28, and clean up of the demolition debris is underway.
The majority of the earthworks, storm, irrigation and concrete walkways are complete.
“Construction of the play area continues, with the majority of the equipment installed,” said staff in an update to council.
It’s expected that the park will be open to the public by mid-to-late-July, though the installation of the meadow at the centre of the park will be done in the fall.
