There were no injuries in a fire that engulfed a detached garage and threatened to spread to a neighbouring home in Vernon on Wednesday, though the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

BC Wildfire Service, assisted by Vernon Fire Rescue Services, spent hours tackling the June 2 structure fire on a farm property in the 500 block of Commonage Road, which spread to surrounding grasslands.

City of Vernon communications officer Christy Poirier confirmed no injuries resulted from the blaze.

A BC Wildfire investigation team was on the scene yesterday to determine the cause, but so far the investigation remains ongoing, according to fire information officer Madison Smith.

The fire broke out around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and persisted for some time as numerous explosions could be heard from within the burning structure.
