No jail time for former BX Swan Lake firefighter

Provincial court judge agrees to community service and restitution for Layne Benner

Former BX Swan Lake volunteer firefighter Layne Benner has been given a suspended sentence and ordered to perform 100 hours of community service work. Benner was sentenced in Vernon Provincial Court Wednesday after he earlier pleaded guilty to one count of failure to account. Benner was arrested earlier this year after it was discovered thousands of dollars was missing from the fire department spanning more than a decade. Benner was ordered to pay nearly $12,500 in restitution to the fire department.
