Leadership changes at the North Okanagan Regional District are official.
As first reported in The Morning Star, the regional district board confirmed Wednesday that Trafford Hall will begin duties as administrator May 2.
“In the eyes of the board, he was the most suitable candidate,” said Herman Halvorson, chairperson, who would not say how many applicants there were.
“I believe he will provide the leadership we need at this time.”
Greg Betts has been NORD administrator since 2009, and is retiring.
Hall’s 25 years in local government includes 17 years as municipal manager in Kitimat.
“He came across as willing to speak his mind and he has a lot of experience,” said director Dee Wejr, who was part of NORD’s hiring committee.
“I like the idea of a new face coming to our regional district. There are new ideas and there are no preconceptions about him.”
In a released statement, Hall indicated that he is excited about his new role.
“I very much look forward to joining the team at the regional district and moving to the beautiful North Okanagan area,” he said.
“I hope to make a positive contribution to the important services provided to the citizens of the area and build on the good work of the board and capable staff of this fine organization.”
In mid-February, the District of Kitimat announced there was a mutual decision between the municipality and Hall to part ways.
