Blackway was released to the movie-going public June 10.

The producer of a North Okanagan-filmed movie is thrilled with the public response.

Since Blackway was released June 10, it has gone from 97 to nine on video on demand.

“We are in the top 10 which is pretty big,” said Rick Dugdale, president of Hollywood-based Enderby Entertainment.

“Anything in the top 50 was a grand slam for us.”

And the response for the movie, which was shot in the region in 2014, has also been strong among theatre-goers.

“People are definitely coming out,” said Dugdale.

Blackway’s world premiere was at the Starlight Drive-In in Enderby while it was also shown at the Vernon Towne Cinema, and the screening in Santa Monica, Calif. was sold out.

The Swedish premiere, where director Daniel Alfredson, originates from, was held in Stockholm Wednesday.

Dugdale has been pleased with the reviews, but admits the film won’t make all critics happy.

“You can make Gone with the Wind and there will still be bad reviews,” he said.

“Critics write a bad review and you get more clicks.  But we are finding an audience. It’s 90 minutes of entertainment with great actors and the audience acts accordingly.”

Blackway stars Anthony Hopkins, Ray Liotta, Alexander Ludwig and Julia Stiles.
