Okanagan Spirits was right.

It only took five days before the highly-anticipated BRBN sold-out!

If you missed a chance to purchase Okanagan Spirits' bourbon-style corn whisky, you can still taste it by the dram at the on-site Barrel Room Lounge and Patio as well as at a select number of local restaurants who will be adding it to their whisky lists.

The Okanagan became the birthplace of Bourbon-style whisky Friday with BC’s Original Craft Distillery, Okanagan Spirits, releasing its much-anticipated first batch of ‘BRBN’ – a Bourbon-Style Corn Whisky.

Okanagan Spirits Craft Distillery created the “BRBN” brand and concept more than five years ago with the commencement of their grain-corn crop plantings in the Coldstream Valley.  After being Okanagan grown and field-dried, the BRBN grain-corn is then milled, fermented and distilled on site at both of their two Okanagan Valley Distilleries. The spirit is then carefully aged in American Oak casks to develop the characteristics of a world-class Bourbon.

“We came up with the name BRBN, a phonetic play on the regionally protected name Bourbon, just over five years ago when we were sipping our first Laird of Fintry Single Malt Whisky, just prior to its release,”  said Tyler Dyck, CEO of Okanagan Spirits Craft Distillery.

“We thought it would be a great addition to our Whisky portfolio and thus the name and spirit were born.”

The bourbon-style dream matured to a reality Friday as B.C.’s oldest craft distillery released 10 barrels of their inaugural batch.

Okanagan Spirits Craft Distillery has spearheaded the way for whisky in B.C. with its line-up of B.C.’s first Craft Rye Whisky, B.C.’s first Single Malt and Hopped Whiskies and now, a Western-Canadian first: the Bourbon-style BRBN.

Located in both Vernon and Kelowna, the craft distillery anticipates that BRBN will sell out in record time.

“We’ve been keeping the community up-to-date about BRBN for more than half a decade as we fine-tuned harvesting, preparation, and distilling process, so we’ve had people wanting to get their hands on an opportunity to purchase or pre-purchase a bottle for years,” said Dyck.

“We think these bottles will be snapped up fast! That said, we have expanded our whisky-making capacity substantially in recent years, so we hope to be able to keep all four of our whisky lines on the shelves continually within the next year or so.”

Once sold-out, BRBN will be available to taste by the dram at the Okanagan Spirits Barrel Room Lounge and Patio (in Kelowna and Vernon) as well as at select restaurants. BRBN will be available for tasting in Vernon at Marten Brewpub and in Kelowna at Raudz Regional, Micro Bar, Waterfront Wines, Oak & Cru (Delta Grand), Curious Cafe, Salted Brick and BNA.

The next batch release is anticipated for early 2017.
