For the second time since the start of last weekend, Interior Health (IH) says a doctor shortage is closing Oliver hospital's emergency room.

Emergency services at the South Okanagan General Hospital will be closed on Tuesday, Nov. 5, from 5 to 11 p.m.

Patients are asked to access care at the Penticton Regional Hospital during this time.

All other inpatient services will continue as normal at South Okanagan General Hospital, IH said.

Before Tuesday's announcement, the department closed from 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1, to 7 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2.

People in the community who need life-threatening emergency care should always call 911 for transport to the nearest available and appropriate facility, the regional health authority added.
