Oyama hopeful steps forward

Rob Nairne seeks Oyama seat on Lake Country council

Oyama resident Rob Nairne wants to represent the community he has lived in his entire life.

Nairne is seeking the Oyama ward seat on Lake Country council during the Nov. 19 municipal election.

“I have always loved Oyama and I want to help protect its best interest,” said the retired union representative. “I have always been involved in the community.”

Nairne has volunteered over the years with the Royal Canadian Legion and the Oyama Community Club.

One of his primary concerns is what will happen to the current highway along Wood Lake once the new Highway 97 is completed and open to traffic.

“I would like to have some consultation and find out what people want to do with the corridor.”

Nairne believes there is also a need to focus on the economy and attract industry to the area.

“I see so many people heading north or to Alberta to find jobs,” he said.

“I also want to retain the rural nature of the community but some say in overall development in Lake Country.”

He also suggests that there is a need for the district to consider pedestrian safety along roads, and that may include installation of sidewalks.

Besides Nairne, Owen Dickie is also seeking the Oyama ward seat on council Nov. 19.
