Some Vernon parents are adding pressure to teachers and government to get kids back in school, on time.
Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and anyone concerned about kids’ education are invited to join a neutral demonstration at Polson Park today (near the fountain) from 3 to 5 p.m.
Those attending are asked to bring signs saying: “Our kids deserve an education.”
This is the second local demonstration, after organizer Lovona Farnsworth shared the message in front of Ellison Elementary Wednesday.
“We ended up in total with about 15 people,” said Farnsworth, a single mom who just wants to see her kids get the education they deserve.
The Vernon School District has stated that school could start as planned Sept. 3, if both sides can come to an agreement by Friday.
If the B.C. Teachers’ Federation and the B.C. Public School Employers’ Association cannot reach an agreement by Friday then school will not start on time as there would not be enough time for staff to prepare for the return of students.
