Armonia is among the local bands taking the Polson Park stage Saturday for the BC Day Band Blast.

A party in the park will give residents an even greater reason to celebrate British Columbia this long weekend.

Music will fill the air all day Saturday in Polson Park as the BC Day Band Blast takes to the stage from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The inaugural event will showcase a variety of local talents plus headliner Sabrina Weeks and Swing Cat Bounce.

While the Kamloops anchor act has agreed to come on board, the event’s main goal is to give the local talents the time and space to shine.

“We noticed that a lot of young bands don’t get a lot of chances to play anywhere,” said Iftkhar Ahmed, owner of Showtime! Event Management, who is putting on the event with the help of Mirage Sound.

“The whole point of this is to give these guys a chance to get on stage,” said Ahmed, who is using the anchor band to attract. “For them to come out and show their stuff, warts and all.”

The acts are as follows:

Rene Giasson 10-11 a.m.

Jacob Soucy Quartet 11:30-12:30

The Kinky Pinks 1-2 p.m.

Armonia 2:30-3:30 p.m.

Sabrina Weeks & Swing Cat Bounce 4-6 p.m.

Danaka & Shugarboy with Nation Party 6:30-7:30 p.m.

“It’s a mixed bag,” said Ahmed of the variety of music.

The free, full day of fun will also feature vendors and those attending are urged to bring a non-perishable donation for the Vernon food bank.

Along with supporting local artists, the event brings a fun-filled day to the region in celebration of B.C. Day.

“We picked BC Day for that reason, there wasn’t really much going on,” said Ahmed.

With the help of the community coming out to support the local artists, he hopes to make the event an annual tradition.
