Get your shopping bags ready and hop in your time machine because Zellers is making a return to Penticton this summer.
The Bay has confirmed that some of their department store will be turning into the iconic Zellers for a pop up location that will feature clothing and home shopping items.
There aren’t a lot of details on how it will look yet but it is expected to open for shopping starting as early as July 28 or Aug. 1.
Zellers was located at the now Real Canadian Superstore. It was popular in Penticton until it closed down in 2012.
In 2011, HBC announced it intended to sell the majority of its remaining Zellers leases to American company Target, closing most of the locations by 2013, though Target’s subsequent venture in Canada was a fiasco.
In 2013, the Real Canadian Superstore opened its doors at the former Zellers location in the Penticton Power Centre.

Zellers was founded in 1931 and acquired by HBC in 1978. The store reached its height at the end of the 1990s, with around 350 locations, before losing ground to big-box competitors like Walmart.
