Vernon RCMP believe an abandoned vehicle found crashed Sunday morning nearly hit another vehicle

Vernon RCMP believe an abandoned vehicle found crashed near Mission Hill Sunday morning nearly hit another vehicle in downtown Vernon 90 minutes earlier.

The Vernon detachment received a call of a car speeding through the intersection of 32nd Street and 32nd Avenue just after midnight.

“The silver car, believed to be a Honda-type vehicle, with two occupants was being driven at a high rate of speed, nearly hitting the woman in her vehicle, who then called our office,” said RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.

At around 1:30 a.m., officers responded to a report a single-vehicle accident at 40th Street and Okanagan Avenue, though no one was in the vehicle when police arrived.

“A police dog team was called in, however they were unable to locate anyone from the vehicle,” said Molendyk.

There was damage to the vehicle and considerable damage done to a guard rail as a result of the accident.

Molendyk said that police officers are continuing their investigation into the crash and follow-up with the registered owner of the vehicle.
