Politicians asked to share vision

Candidates for Vernon and Coldstream are being asked to share their vision of the region.

Candidates for Vernon and Coldstream are being asked to share their vision of the region.

The Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce will host a forum Nov. 2 and the three mayoralty candidates for Vernon and the two candidates in Coldstream have been invited to participate.

“The forum will allow each mayoralty candidate to present their Greater Vernon vision in five minutes, or less,” said George Duffy, chamber general manager.

“After the formal presentations, the candidates will then be asked a series of questions developed by chamber members and staff. The questions will not be sent out to candidates in advance so candidates will have to answer using their best judgement on the spot.”

Following the forum, there will be a meet-and-greet social for those in attendance.

“Mayoralty and council candidates from Vernon and Coldstream have been invited to attend,” said Duffy.

Duffy says the chamber wants candidates to focus on the economy.

“We need a bold, strategic business development plan for the future,” he said.

The chamber-hosted mayors forum and candidate social takes place at the Schubert Centre from 7 to 9 p.m.

There will also be a forum for Vernon mayor and council candidates Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Vernon Performing Arts Centre.

As part of the event, donations will be collected to purchase children’s theatre tickets, which the Family Resource Centre distributes to families that would otherwise be unable to attend performances.

The Nov. 7 forum is hosted by the Vernon Performing Arts Centre Society.
