Power outage in Vernon likely due to contact, not heat: BC Hydro

Thousands were without power Thursday morning

Power went out for around 7,400 people in Vernon Thursday morning, but BC Hydro says they’re not sure what caused it.

A few people reported on social media that a low-flying plane was heard overhead and immediately after it passed, the lights went out, although this couldn’t be confirmed.

A spokesperson from the utility said the event was likely due to contact, and confirmed it was not linked to the heat wave.

A crew was sent out and all power was restored to customers before 11:30 a.m. July 1.
