Students at Vernon’s Okanagan College Kalamalka campus got an unexpected one-day break from classes during the first week of school.
The campus closed for all of its day and evening classes Thursday after a transformer failure late Wednesday afternoon disrupted the campus’s electricity.
“College staff are working to address the issue and replace the failed transformer within 24 hours and expect to have power back up and running at the campus by the end of day Thursday,” said Allan Coyle, director of public affairs for Okanagan College.
The message about classes being cancelled Thursday at the Vernon campus found its way to students, thanks to local media, and those who passed on the message via Facebook, Twitter and through text messages to their friends.
Plans are still to recommence classes Friday morning.
