Some major steps have been taken towards the 2017 55+ BC Games in Vernon.

The host society has selected the host hotel while the Games website has been launched and the call has been put out for volunteers.

“We are extremely excited about the progress we are making,” said Anne Haight, director of promotions.

While every room in the region will likely be full during the Sept. 12 to 16 Games, the Vernon Lodge will be the host hotel.

“To welcome participants from across the province during our first year of ownership of the Vernon Lodge is an exciting opportunity,” said David Gibbs, Vernon Lodge general manager.

On top of selecting the host hotel, the 2017 Games website is now live at www.55plusgames.ca

The site will be updated regularly with information specific to Vernon activities, a Games overview, volunteer opportunities, the list of the sports, venues, accommodations and other links.

“With the launch of the Games website, it allows us to better communicate with organizers, athletes and the public,” said Haight.

And a call for volunteers has also been issued by organizers.

Between 1,200 and 1,500 volunteers will be required for various roles.

“All backgrounds and interests are welcome for the many available positions and opportunities throughout the Games,” said Haight.
