Provincial fire ban still in place

Reminder from Vernon Fire Rescue Services of provincial fire ban still in effect, including prohibitions on all campfires and open burning

Vernon Fire-Rescue Services would like to remind Greater Vernon residents and visitors that the provincial fire ban is still in effect, including prohibitions on all campfires and open burning, and will remain in effect until the public is informed otherwise.

This open fire prohibition applies to:

  • Campfires or backyard fires, fire pits, outdoor stoves or chimneys;
  • The burning of any waste, slash or other materials;
  • The burning of stubble or grass; and
  • The use of fireworks, sky lanterns or burning barrels of any size or description.

This prohibition does not apply to cooking stoves that use gas, propane or briquettes, or to a portable campfire apparatus with a CSA or ULC rating that uses briquettes, liquid or gaseous fuel, as long as the height of the flame is less than 15 centimetres.

There is a zero tolerance policy and offenders could be subject to fines from VFRS or the wildfire management branch of the ministry of forests, lands and  natural resources.
