Plans are moving ahead to expand Kal Tire Place.

Greater Vernon residents are being reminded that input on a new arena is moving ahead.

The City of Vernon and MQN Architects is holding consultation sessions on expanding Kal Tire Place to include a second ice sheet.

“It’s important and we encourage people to get out,” said Doug Ross, the City of Vernon’s recreation manager.

The sessions will be 1 to 2:30 p.m. today at the Lakers Clubhouse, 1 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Coldstream Women’s Institute Hall and 1 to 2:30 p.m. Friday at the BX fire hall.

There will also be a session from 7 to 8:30 p.m. June 6 at the Kal Tire Place Grand Room

City staff and the architects are also meeting with user groups and other stakeholders.

Among them has been those hosting the special events or using the dry floor and the parking lot at Kal Tire Place.

“It stimulated thought about the kind of design we want,” said Ross.

Among the groups consulted was the Vernon Farmers Market.

“There was a good dialogue and we will look  at all aspects of the design, including the parking lot,” said Ross.

The tender for construction of the $13 million ice sheet could be issued early in 2017.
