Longboarders and lugers will be bombing when the Knox Mountain Downhill hits Kelowna on June 17-18.
The annual event, which was co-founded by the Kamloops Longboard Club and Kelowna Longboard Alliance, attracts athletes from around the world. The race also serves as a qualifier for Team Canada for men’s and women’s downhill skateboarding.
To accommodate the downhill race, road closures and parking restrictions will be in place throughout the weekend.
The lower 1.5 kilometres of Knox Mountain Drive, from the base to the first lookout, will be closed to vehicle traffic starting at 7 a.m. Saturday and will remain closed throughout the weekend.
Spectators are permitted to enter the area to watch the event from designated areas. Hikers are also permitted on area trails, including Apex Trail when the course is not in use by participants or shuttle vehicles.
Parking will be restricted in the lot at the first lookout area on Knox Mountain Drive. The main parking lot at the foot of Knox Mountain will remain open to the public.
The event wraps up at 5 p.m. on Sunday.
More information is available on the Knox Mountain Downhill website.
