North Okanagan residents dug deep for some special children.

The Variety Children’s Radiothon on Kiss FM raised $30,932 and 223 Buddy Bears Wednesday and Thursday.

“Vernon is full of incredible supporters and we are so appreciative of the community’s unwavering support each and every year,” said Barbie Hislop, Variety executive director.

All proceeds will support children who have special needs in the greater Vernon area.

The radiothon introduced listeners to some of the local children and organizations Variety has helped including the North Okanagan Neurological Association and Vernon Jubilee Hospital.

“Thirteen-year-old Joey of Enderby was helped by Variety this year,”said Hislop.

“Joey has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. He recently had to begin using a power wheelchair as his condition was worsening. His family needed a wheelchair accessible van for daily living and a ramp for the home. Variety provided the home ramp as well as a van ramp and tie downs so Joey can get around with greater ease and his family can take him out into the community.”
