Vernon's rainbow crosswalk has a permanent home.

City council voted Monday to place the rainbow crosswalk on 30th Avenue between 33rd and 34th streets.

"It's what was originally proposed," said Coun. Dalvir Nahal.

Until Monday, it was expected that the crosswalk would be installed at 30th Avenue and 31st Street.

However, Travis Irmen, who lobbied for a rainbow crosswalk, urged council to shift the rainbow colours to the 33rd Street area.

"I would like to see it moved their as it would last longer due to less wear from cars turning as well as the aesthetic appeal of the area and the ability to have it part of the downtown markets and activities," he said in a letter to council.

Coun. Scott Anderson voted in October against having a rainbow crosswalk but he voted Monday for the location.

"I just let it go. We've had that discussion and there's no point talking about it," he said.

The rainbow crosswalk will be installed in early spring.
