A growing number of suspicious fires in the BX has the RCMP scrambling.

There have been 16 or 17 suspicious grass fires since April.

"A number of plain clothes and uniform resources have been assigned to these investigations," said Cpl. Dan Moskaluk, with the RCMP.

"The RCMP are working with local fire officials and the investigative efforts are focused on determining the cause of each fire. Should they be deemed as human-caused and intentionally set, investigators will then look at efforts to identify the people responsible for setting them."

The latest fire in the BX was Tuesday afternoon off of Wallace Road. It grew to about five-by-10 metres in size.

"The RCMP are asking that the public remain alert to any suspicious activity that may be associated with these incidents, and to report any information that may help with these investigations," said Moskaluk.

Anyone with information about these incidents can call the RCMP at 250-260-5833 or for Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
