Vernon RCMP got a bonus when they found a suspect wanted on an arrest warrant from a recent undercover operation.

Officers from the community response unit were in the 3000 block of 34th Street Tuesday when they noticed the man, wanted for trafficking a controlled substance.

The officers placed the suspect under arrest for the warrant and, during the booking procedure, officers discovered the suspect was in possession of numerous baggies of suspected heroin, a quantity of cash and cell phones.

Zakri Schaeffer, 21, of Vernon, now faces a second charge of possession for the purposes of trafficking.

He made his first appearance in court Wednesday, and was expected to re-appear in provincial court Thursday.

Undercover RCMP officers successfully purchased drugs (predominantly cocaine and heroin) from 21 different people during a May long sting.

The operation took place across the city and resulted in 25 drug related charges.

The investigation is ongoing.
