The RCMP are investigating what they describe as a horrific assault in a Coldstream neighbourhood.

On Tuesday at about 8:20 p.m., officers responded to a report of a domestic assault off Buchanan Road.

“Officers arrived and discovered that three people had been allegedly beaten with a baseball bat by a male who was known to all three,” said Gord Molendyk, Vernon RCMP spokesperson.

Three individuals — two women and a man — suffered visible bruises to their legs, arms, torsos and face.

“The two women were transported by emergency health services to Vernon Jubilee Hospital for further medical treatment,” said Molendyk.

“One remains in hospital and required surgery to repair a broken arm.”

A 27-year-old suspect was arrested several hours later in downtown Vernon as police officers and City of Vernon bylaw officers were responding to a complaint of a man exposing himself.

Charges of assault with a weapon, uttering threats, assault and aggravated assault were forwarded to Crown counsel for consideration.

The suspect was expected to appear in court late Thursday to answer to the charges.
