An arrest has been made in connection with reports of mailboxes being broken into.
Police responded to reports Sunday that five community and group mailboxes had been entered in the Lavington and Lumby area.
“A short time later a man and woman entered the Money Mart on 25th Avenue in Vernon and attempted to cash a cheque related to the thefts,” said Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.
The police were called and after a brief foot chase that ended in Polson Park, the 21-year-old woman was caught.
The officers have been able to determine the suspect had eight outstanding warrants for her arrest. She was held in custody and returned to Kelowna.
“Our officers are continuing with this investigation and after searching the vehicle associated to the two suspects, numerous tools and mail items have been recovered indicating thefts from mailboxes throughout the Okanagan,” said Molendyk.
As our officers are still in the early stages of this investigation, it will take time to record all of the stolen items that were recovered. The investigators will be in touch with those individuals who were affected by the thefts.”
Police are asking anyone who may have seen suspicious activity around any of the community and group mailboxes, or knows anything about the thefts, to please call the Vernon dDetachment at 250-545-7171.
