It’s not often, in this day and age, that RCMP officers have to deal with horse thieves.
But it happened in Lumby.
A village RCMP member responded to a complaint of an intoxicated woman slumped over a saddle-less horse on Highway 6 at Dure Meadow Road.
“The officer had his hands full dealing with the female with one hand and the horse with the other,” stated Lumby RCMP Cpl. Henry Proce.
Fortunately, some locals came to the rescue and took control of the horse.
After the woman was arrested and safely lodged in Vernon cells, the detachment received a second call of a horse missing from a nearby ranch.
“So, the animal was safely returned to the proper owners,” said Proce.
The suspect has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000.
