RCMP say Coldstream assault didn't occur

RCMP are investigating an alleged assault in Lavington.

RCMP officers have completed their investigation of an alleged sexual assault of a woman Saturday in Coldstream.

Police have determined that the sexual assault did not occur, as previously reported by the woman.

The utmost sensitivity towards the complainant has been maintained and was paramount during this investigation," said Cpl. Dan Moskaluk.

"Given the degree of public interest regarding public safety following a reported alleged attack taking place in a public area, we have a responsibility to update the residents of the Bessette Avenue area and advise them that no current known threats exist.

Charges are not being pursued against the woman, who had claimed she had been forced to the ground by a lone male at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

At the time, the RCMP described the situation as a "sexually motivated assault."

Public assistance is being sought after a reported sexual assault in Coldstream.

On Saturday at about 9:30 p.m., the RCMP responded to a report of an assault in the 9500 block of Bessette Avenue in the Lavington area.

"A female victim advised investigators that she was approached by a lone male and forced to the ground," said Cpl. Dan Moskaluk.

"Based on the account of the victim, police are investigating this as a sexually motivated assault. The victim was physically uninjured."

No description other than a man with a medium athletic build, wearing a dark bandana could be provided.
