RCMP status quota met

The Township of Spallumcheen is sticking with the status quo for police officers.

The Township of Spallumcheen is sticking with the status quo for police officers.

The RCMP has sent out a notice to its municipal partners to establish projections for human and financial resource needs in 2017-18.

The township currently pays for three full-time officers.

“We are requesting the same amount, no change,” said Amy Vienneau, chief financial officer.

The cost for 2017 will jump four per cent from $431,341 to $447,812 which takes into account salaries and funding for the detachment building. The money has been put aside as part of the township’s five-year financial plan.

Ministry meetings

The township will send a letter to Victoria requesting to meet with the environment, health and agriculture ministers at the Union of B.C. Municipalities convention in September in Victoria, to discuss the Hullcar aquifer situation.

Municipalities had until June 13 to submit their list of preferred ministers to meet with.

Coun. Christine Fraser asked about setting up a meeting to discuss funding for water servicing and waste water in South Spallumcheen.

“I believe that is done through the ministry of community, sport and cultural development, and those meetings are schedule direct with that ministry,” said Corey Paiement, the township’s administrator

The township expects to hear back sometime in August if meetings have been approved.
