Resident input approved in financial plan

Public involvement is still a key ingredient in Vernon’s financial plan

Public involvement is still a key ingredient in Vernon’s financial plan.

City council has endorsed a process for the 2013 budget, including public input sessions at the three planning meetings and a formal session prior to the document being adopted.

What’s missing is an open house, which was held with the 2012 budget.

“An open house wasn’t included because no members of the public showed up,” said Kevin Bertles, finance manager.

That approach had support from Coun. Mary-Jo O’Keefe.

“Having an open house was a tremendous amount of staff work (developing graphs and charts) and no one attended,” she said.

“People who are interested have four other opportunities to provide input.”
