A Vernon convenience store clerk was pepper-sprayed in a robbery Monday night

A Vernon convenience store clerk was pepper-sprayed in a robbery Monday night.

Vernon RCMP officers responded to a report of a robbery at the Mac’s Convenience Store in the 4300 block of 27th Street at 7:30 p.m.

“The suspect entered the store, approached the clerk and pepper-sprayed him,” said Vernon RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk. “The suspect then grabbed cigarettes and left the store.”

The suspect can best be described as a man with brown hair wearing a black hoodie underneath a silver jacket, possibly in his 20s.

Police are working with the property owners to determine if there is a photo for the suspect in their surveillance system.

The clerk was taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital to be treated for the effects of the pepper spray.
