Money was taken from the Marble Slab Creamery, in the Fruit Union Plaza, Wednesday

A robbery suspect may have had second thoughts about his activities.

On Wednesday at about 7:25 p.m., an employee at Marble Slab Creamery, in the Fruit Union Plaza, called the Vernon RCMP to report a theft.

“The employee stated a male entered the store and asked for change for his loonie,” said Gord Molendyk, RCMP spokesperson.

“When the clerk opened the till, the male pushed her arms aside and reached in and stole the cash from the till.”

A description of the suspect was broadcast to officers who were not able to locate the individual.

But just before 2 a.m. Thursday,  a 47-year-old Vernon man showed up at the RCMP detchment and turned himself in for robbing the ice cream shop.

The suspect has been held in cells and he was expected to appear in court Thursday on a charge of robbery.
