Mel Arnold will represent the party in the next federal election

A Salmon Arm businessman will carry the Conservative banner in the 2015 federal election.

Mel Arnold was elected the party’s Okanagan-Shuswap candidate during two days of voting, which wrapped up Saturday night.

I am looking forward to the honour of being the Okanagan-Shuswap Conservative candidate and building on the good work Colin Mayes and our Conservative government have accomplished,” said Arnold of Mayes who is retiring from politics.

Winning the candidacy is now the first step toward winning the next election and providing the best representation possible the residents of the entire riding.”

Also seeking the nomination were Vernon’s Scott Anderson, Janet Green, of Lumby and Wayne Lippert, of Vernon.

Arnold has operated Complete Marine in Salmon Arm for 25 years. He is a past-president of the B.C. Wildlife Federation and has been involved in the Salmon Arm Chamber of Commerce and the Shuswap Pro Development Association president.

Arnold will go up against Liberal Cindy Derkaz, the NDP’s Jacqui Gingras and Green Dave Smith.
